State elections in Schleswig-Holstein: No chance against Daniel Günther

2022-05-09T09:53:16.813Z

A historic low for the SPD in Schleswig-Holstein, but the comrades have no doubts about the issues and the top candidate. The justification for the outcome of the election sounds surprisingly similar in all camps.

CDU supporters:

»Daniel Günther Prime Minister, Prime Minister, Prime Minister«

The state elections in Schleswig-Holstein have taken place - and in all camps it was then about one man in particular.

The incumbent Günther has again significantly expanded his success from 2017.

43.4 percent - for the CDU, this is the best result in Schleswig-Holstein since 1983.

Daniel Günther, Prime Minister of Schleswig-Holstein, CDU:

"There can be no doubt about it: the winner of the election this evening is the CDU, we are."

And the Christian Democrats have a clear answer as to what determines electoral success.

Mario Tanz, CDU supporter:

"To Daniel Günther and to the good Jamaican government."

Frank Kempken, CDU supporter:

“To Daniel Günther, what else?”

Ms. Termühlen, CDU supporter:

"On his personality and the positive charisma."

The SPD experienced a great disappointment.

With only 16 percent, she lost more than eleven percentage points.

Thomas Losse-Müller, SPD top candidate:

"Dear comrades, that's really a bitter result."

The analysis here was very similar to that of the CDU.

One reason for the election result is Daniel Günther.

Thomas Losse-Müller, SPD top candidate:

"We knew it was against one of the most popular prime ministers in the Federal Republic, against a Jamaica government that had a lot of approval because it had positioned itself very broadly and because it had made a single election promise, keep it up.«

It is by far the worst result that the Social Democrats in Schlewsig-Holstein have ever achieved.

The previous low was 25.4 percent.

And yet: the party was actually quite satisfied with its own election campaign.

Marc Fricke, SPD supporter:

"I wouldn't say that it's actually up to the SPD.

In another election campaign, one might have said that, but the election campaign was very well set up.

And the problem is that the prime minister is obviously very popular.«

Rene Hendricks, SPD supporter:

"I'm disappointed with the result.

But I'm satisfied with our election campaign.

Well, I think we've named clear themes that I can stand behind.

I've been a social democrat since I was 18 and I could identify with it.

I also think our top candidate is good.

He's got it, I'd put it bluntly.") And Günther's coalition partner?"

Thomas Losse-Müller, SPD top candidate:

»People know that the SPD is there for them.

People know that we have the people who care for them.

And people also understood that we are the ones fighting for them, even though they may not have voted for us this time.«

Euphoria among the Greens.

With 18.3 percent, the party makes the jump to second place and is correspondingly satisfied.

Monika Heinold, top candidate of the Greens:

»Yes, dear friends.

The best green state association in the entire Federal Republic is here in Schleswig-Holstein.«

The FDP, in turn, suffered heavy losses, with 6.1 percent, the share of votes has almost halved.

The reason was quickly found here as well.

Bernd Buchholz, FDP top candidate:

"Well, first of all, I think you have to say that Daniel Günther's popularity almost grabbed the entire approval of the Jamaica coalition for himself.

We, in particular, suffered a bit from that.«

Günther and the CDU would be enough for a majority with a single coalition partner due to the strong result.

Greens and FDP quickly position themselves.

Bernd Buchholz, FDP top candidate:

"Now I'll say that when it comes to forming a government, it is usually important to find the greatest possible similarities in content, and in my view there is simply a much larger intersection between the CDU and FDP than between the CDU and the Greens.

But that's up to Daniel Günther to explore."

Aminata Touré, top candidate of the Greens:

"We have shown so clearly that it is important that we could be a green part of a possible next state government, because we have made convincing politics in recent years."

But the decision is not up to them.

And on the evening of his triumph, Günther kept his options open.

Daniel Günther, Prime Minister of Schleswig-Holstein, CDU:

"And that's why, so that there are no long inquiries about it, it's also completely clear to me, also this evening, that we will of course also be in the next few days with our two coalition partners, with them we have worked together will also hold talks with the Greens and the FDP in this government.

Because if you look at the overall result, I mean government, where the three parties also get two-thirds of the support, that also shows that the people are really satisfied with the way we governed in this country.«

Apparently above all - everyone agrees - with Daniel Günther.
