The Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Eng. Mohamed Hassan Qatana, discussed this evening with the Assistant Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Abdul Hakim Al-Waer, to enhance joint cooperation in the agricultural sector, both plant and animal, and the possibility of starting the implementation of new projects.

Minister Qatana stressed during the meeting that the ministry seeks to benefit from the experience of FAO in training and developing agricultural and animal projects, pointing to its supportive role during the years of the terrorist war on Syria in distributing seeds and fertilizers and securing veterinary vaccines, which were difficult to secure, indicating that the organization began to actively participate in the implementation of several projects a year later. 2017.

For his part, Al-Waer indicated that the organization works to help countries achieve food security and has 70 years of experience, transferring expertise from one country to another and linking experiences to each other, stressing that the organization aspires to be a link and a partner between countries in the region in a way that eases the burden on Syria, especially in the agricultural sector. Which is the basis, noting that the Corona crisis and the Ukrainian crisis alerted the world to the importance of production in achieving food security.

Al-Waer explained that the purpose of the four-day visit is to review the priorities and strategies at the Syrian state level and to deepen partnerships to provide the necessary support, noting that this issue requires in-depth and fair study to improve performance.

He added that different policies will be developed from previous policies according to the requirements of the land, long-term plans will be developed, and a system will be built that extrapolates the rapid changes that occur to avoid the damage that may occur, noting that the organization is working to expand the base of beneficiaries of the services it provides and is trying to involve the largest number of partners in the process. developmental.
