The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating the triple homicide of three boys ages 8 to 12 in the West Hills neighborhood on Sunday.
The children's mother was taken into custody for questioning
after she was sent to a hospital for a mental health evaluation and released in the morning, authorities said.

The police went to the home after receiving an alert call at 7:45 am.

When officers arrived at the home at 22500 Victory Boulevard, West Hills, they found two boys and a girl dead.
The children's mother is in custody, police Sgt. Bruce Borihanh said.
They are not looking for other suspects at this time.

Stephen Hayes, a neighbor, told our sister network NBC News' Los Angeles affiliate that they seemed like a "normal" family.
"We didn't know the family well, but we had seen them a few times in the neighborhood and they seemed like a nice young family. Just normal people," he said.

Iman Bani, another neighbor, lamented the tragedy.
“Especially on this mother's day... I'm also a pastor, and I just pray for the family
,” Bani said.
"It's a horrible, horrible Mother's Day," Hayes added.
