"At work, I go there differently": a challenge for companies in Greater Reims

2022-05-10T14:28:04.450Z

This challenge aims to encourage the use of soft modes of transport from until May 22. More than 350 employees have already registered for this

What alternative to the car?

This is the question that everyone can ask themselves today to improve air quality.

And to change habits, what better than a challenge.

Launched in 2010 in several towns in Alsace, the challenge “At work, I go there differently” organized by Ademe and the Vélo et Mobilités Actives Grand-Est association is finally coming to the Marne!

From May 2 to 22, the first Reims edition of this challenge invites employees to reach their workplace by pedaling or walking.

The objective is to make his team or rather his company win.

“We also count the kilometers avoided by teleworking”

Léa Beltzung, from the Association Vélo et Mobilités Actives

“It's a solidarity challenge, we're not in a competition because colleagues motivate each other to come by bike.

Our goal is to encourage people to try new modes of travel during the challenge,” explains Léa Beltzung, from the Vélo et Mobilités Actives association.

And in total, four modes of travel are accepted: active people (cycling, walking, scooter), public transport, motorized equipment (electric scooter, monowheel, etc.) and carpooling.

“And the novelty this year, underlines Léa Beltzung, is that we count the kilometers avoided by teleworking.

“Because during these three weeks of challenge, the counter is ticking since each employee must enter his kilometers traveled online.

“The ranking is then established in relation to the rate of participation within the company.

And the total kilometers by all the participants will then be converted into a grant donated to an organization working in the field of active mobility,” continues Léa Beltzung.

In Bezannes, near Reims, the Lingat architecture firm decided to take up the challenge like around thirty other structures in Greater Reims.

It is the architect Britt Lamotte who is at the helm of the challenge.

Thanks to this operation, this mother who loves two-wheelers hopes that behavior will change: “I thought it was an opportunity to take advantage of a group effect.

And since the launch of the challenge, some have already started using other modes of travel.

We made an estimate: over 3 weeks we plan to do 800 km for the home-work journey with alternative modes.

»

And if the company does not win the challenge at local level, it will still have raised a problem from the first days of the challenge: the size of the bike room or its layout need to be reviewed.

“We only have room for three bikes.

We will see how we can optimize the space because if some opt for this mode of travel all year round, we will quickly have to find concrete solutions!
