The Directorate of Agriculture in As-Suwayda has developed a plan to plant 4700 dunums of tomatoes for the current summer season, with 4,000 irrigated dunums and 700 dunums of rainfed.
The Director of Agriculture in As-Suwayda, Engineer Ayham Hamed, said in a statement to SANA reporter that the farmers started cultivating tomatoes, which during the current summer season occupy more than 43 percent of the total areas of summer crops and vegetables.
Eng. Hamed pointed out that the directorate encouraged the cultivation of the tomato crop to secure local needs and to achieve a source of income for many families working in its cultivation, despite the difficulties faced by farmers regarding the high costs of production requirements.
The total production of tomatoes in As-Suwayda last season exceeded 75 thousand tons.
