Ambassador Ala discusses with the Director of the World Health Organization cooperation with Syria to support its efforts in providing health care

Syria's permanent representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Husam El-Din Ala, discussed with the Director-General of the World Health Organization Tedros Ghebreyesus the existing cooperation between Syria and the organization to support its efforts in providing health care and ways to develop it, in addition to the issues listed on the agenda of the 75th session of the World Health Assembly scheduled Held in Geneva this month.

Ambassador Ala referred to the challenges facing Syria as a result of the terrorist war and the unilateral coercive measures that have negative effects on the various vital economic and service sectors, including the health sector, noting in this context the support provided by the World Health Organization to Syria, including its efforts to confront the (Covid 19) pandemic, and stressed On the importance of strengthening international cooperation to support the resilience and rehabilitation of the health sector and early recovery programs in Syria.

The ambassador also presented the health conditions in the occupied Syrian Golan and the suffering of its people from discriminatory policies and practices that impede their enjoyment of their basic rights, including the right to health, stressing the importance of the Israeli occupation authorities implementing the obligations imposed by international law on them as the authority.

The occupying power and the importance of the organization carrying out its responsibilities in monitoring Israeli violations, in implementation of the relevant resolutions of the World Health Assembly.

For his part, the Director-General of the World Health Organization praised the efforts made by Syria to protect its citizens in the face of the (Covid 19) pandemic, stressing the organization's commitment to continue providing the support required by Syria to strengthen the health sector and provide health care to its citizens, noting the organization's interest in following up the health conditions in the occupied Arab territories within the framework of its mandate and relevant resolutions.
