A private balcony garden is the ideal place to relax in the warm months.

We reveal how you can enjoy colorful flowers and grow your own fruit and vegetables.

Colorful flowers as far as the eye can see, delicious strawberries straight from the bush and the soft chirping of birds: many people wish they had their own garden.

In cities in particular, however, there is often only one balcony.

But the dream garden can also be designed on a small area.

Lots of plants grow excellently in a small space and with the right equipment you can make ideal use of every centimeter of space.

We show the

must-haves for the balcony garden

.

The right equipment for the balcony garden

Some balconies offer space for an entire garden lounge or a comfortable hanging chair, while others are only a few square meters in size.

A sprawling garden table or bulky chairs are rather unfavorable.

Fortunately, there are some practical solutions to still make room for visitors and afternoon coffee.

A foldable mosaic balcony table is a visual highlight and can be easily attached to all railings.

So you can accommodate even more plants - on a wooden flower stand, for example, there is space for numerous pots.

Thanks to the tiered system, they are optimally staged.

A trellis made of metal is practical as a privacy screen from the neighbors – special types of roses or clematis, for example, climb up it.

Balcony Garden: Vegetables and flowers thrive in these pots and beds

From the seed bag straight into the bed - that's not quite as easy on a balcony.

First of all, the right containers for the respective plants are necessary.

Flowers grow well and stylishly in practical hanging rattan balcony boxes.

Individual hanging flower pots also fit into small corners.

A separate raised bed is ideal for vegetables such as tomatoes and lettuce or delicious herbs.

Even potatoes grow in so-called plant bags made of fleece.

Gardeners on the balcony: These plants grow with a lot and little light

A small, green paradise is to be created on the balcony.

But which plants are actually suitable?

  • Sunny balcony : Flowers and vegetables get their fill of sun

    on a south-facing balcony.

But they have to be able to endure it.

Geraniums or petunias, for example, are well suited for this.

Tomatoes and strawberries also love it warm and sunny and are particularly tasty.

  • Shaded balcony: A shaded

balcony offers little light, but many plants feel comfortable here too.

Ivy looks beautiful on a trellis, flowers like the hard-working Lizzie or magnificent hydrangeas add color.

You can also grow herbs such as peppermint here.

  • Half

-shaded balcony: On a half-shaded balcony, the colorful angel's trumpet becomes an eye-catcher.

As a vegetable, various salads grow well.
