Throughout Upper Franconia, there were repeated fraudulent calls over the course of Monday, especially the scam of the shock call.
Kulmbach – In the last few months, reports of fraudulent calls in Bavaria have increased again.
It was only in early April that an elderly woman handed gold and jewelry from her bank vault to fraudsters, and the police issued an urgent warning about the grandchild trick via WhatsApp.
In the recent past, a variation of the grandchild trick, the so-called shock call, has become more common.
On Monday, May 9th, a senior citizen in Kulmbach fell victim to the nasty scam.

According to a police report, there were various fraudulent calls throughout Upper Franconia over the course of Monday.
With promises of prizes, scammers posing as Microsoft employees or the above-mentioned shock call, call center scammers tried to steal the money and valuables from the citizens.
They were successful with a senior citizen in Kulmbach.
She was called by the criminals and told that the daughter had caused a fatal accident and was being held in custody.
Now a high deposit payment is necessary.
The Kulmbach pensioner was called several times and by different people who put pressure on the elderly lady in different ways, according to the police report.

Shock call in Kulmbach: desperate situation of the daughter faked
Among other things, the alleged, desperate daughter phoned the lady, an alleged commissioner from the local office and a "Mr. Nowak" from the district court also held conversations with the woman.
According to the police report, the pensioner could not escape from this stressful situation.
The result: she fell for the scam.
At around 1:30 p.m., the pensioner handed a low five-figure sum of cash and jewelry to a man who came to her home.
The description of the accused is as follows:
About 25 to 30 years old
Had conspicuously black eyebrows and dark eyes
Southern phenotype
The Bayreuth criminal police are urgently asking for information from the population.
Witnesses who observed suspicious people and/or vehicles in the area of Kronhüttenweg/Hopfenweg and Krähenwinkel or saw a man with a suitable description are asked to report the information to the police.
