The task of controlling is the "early detection of undesirable developments".

That is exactly what is happening in Geretsried: the financial traffic light is yellow.

Geretsried – The municipal controller Thomas Schmid recently brought the main and finance committee not quite as positive news as hoped.

His report for the first quarter of the year was on the agenda.

Result: The traffic light is yellow.

“We have to keep an eye on the situation.

A decision must be made on further measures," says Schmid.

He announced a monitoring every two months.

"Currently, only vague forecasts are possible"

The controller is concerned about the general economic situation.

"Currently, only vague forecasts are possible," he said, citing the assessment of the Institute for Economic Research (ifo).

The slow normalization of the corona situation and full order books at companies ensured an upward trend.

However, the war in Ukraine, rising commodity prices, supply bottlenecks and uncertainty in all areas would have a negative impact.

“We have to see how this affects our budget.

Damage will be left behind", Schmid fears. But "the task of controlling is to identify undesirable developments at an early stage".

Due to the pandemic, €9 million in trade tax is missing

The trade tax target for 2022 is not developing as assumed in Geretsried - 16.5 million euros are estimated.

By the end of March, 15.8 million euros had always landed in the city coffers in recent years.

Now you are 800,000 euros behind.

The fact that the city had to retrospectively pay back 3.3 million euros in trade tax to a company that had undergone restructuring for previous years played a role.

"That's ugly," said the controller.

The city would be missing a total of 9 million euros in trade tax due to the pandemic.

Schmid also sees a warning sign in the fact that the earnings budget, which includes ongoing expenses and income in the double budget management, is developing worse than planned in the budget.

"So far we have always been better." sw
