There was almost a crash at Mexico City Airport: while one plane was about to take off, another was preparing to land – on the same runway.

It is probably thanks to the pilot's quick response and the attentiveness of another crew that there was no accident at Mexico City Airport on Saturday evening (May 7).

The Airbus Neo with the registration number Y4-799 was just getting ready to land on runway 05L when it aborted at the last moment and took off - this is shown in a video that is currently circulating on Twitter.

Another plane was in the process of taking off on the same runway.

Volaris pilot aborts landing after warning

Both aircraft belong to the

Mexican low-cost airline Volaris

.

According to boss Enrique Beltranena, thanks to the trained crews, no one was injured, as

aerotelegraph.com

reports.

According to the industry portal, his statements indicated that there had been no warning from the control tower.

Only another crew on the ground noticed that something was wrong and

warned the pilot of the approaching machine

.

According to Mexican media reports, the head of the Seneam authority, which is responsible for airspace surveillance, has resigned.

Chaos at the airports near Mexico City?

Pilots Association warns

Apparently there have been more unfortunate incidents at Mexico City Airport lately.

According to aerotelegraph.com

, the International Federation of National Pilots' Associations IFALPA

only warned on May 4th that more and more planes

with little fuel had to stay in the air over the airport for a long time

.

In addition, there were false warnings and other problems.

One reason for this could be the newly opened Felipe Ángeles Airport near Mexico City in March.

With the converted military base, there are now

two airports at 2,200 meters above sea level in a city surrounded by mountains

- a fact that aviation experts criticized before the start of operation, according to the AFP news agency.

According to IFALPA, air traffic control has also received little training to cope with the new volume of traffic in the airspace.

Therefore, IFALPA recommends the cockpit crews: "If you receive a release that you consider questionable, first clarify the release to your satisfaction."
