The prosecutor of the Specialized Unit for the Fight against Drug Trafficking in Paraguay, Marcelo Pecci, was murdered in Colombia, the Police of that country reported this Tuesday, adding in a statement that its director will lead the investigations of the fact , which occurred on the island of Barú, south of Cartagena.
Officials from Paraguay and the United States are also expected to participate in the investigations.
Pecci was in Colombia celebrating his honeymoon after his wedding to journalist Claudia Aguilera, several local Paraguayan media reported.
The president of Paraguay, Mario Abdo Benítez, lamented the news.
"The cowardly murder of prosecutor Marcelo Pecci in Colombia mourns the entire Paraguayan nation. We condemn this tragic event in the strongest terms and redouble our commitment to fight against organized crime. Our sincere condolences to his family," the president said in his twitter account.
