Metropolitan University's "Jockey Club STEAM Educational Resource Sharing Scheme" supports secondary schools in cultivating future I&T talents

However, to integrate STEAM into existing school subjects, teachers need a series of complete hardware and software packages.

In view of this, the Hong Kong Metropolitan University (Metropolitan University) has launched a "Jockey Club STEAM Education Resource Sharing Project" which is donated and supported by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charitable Trust Fund to fully support the implementation of STEAM education in secondary schools. So far, there are more than 70 secondary schools. Become a partner school.


All of them strive to promote local STEAM education. With the donation of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the four-year "Jockey Club STEAM Education Resource Sharing Project" was launched in February 2019.

Professor Wang Fuli, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology of Metropolitan University, believes that this project will help promote the development of STEAM education in Hong Kong.

He said, "In recent years, many schools have implemented STEAM, and they hope to cooperate closely with secondary schools through the project, make good use of the university's resources, provide a series of professional training and educational workshops for teachers and students, and improve the learning outcomes of secondary schools in implementing STEAM education in schools. In addition, Metropolitan University has also opened up the university's laboratory for the participating schools to borrow, and they can use the advanced teaching equipment in the laboratory to enhance the effectiveness of learning and teaching."

Metropolitan University organizes various educational workshops to provide STEAM education support and training for middle school teachers and students.

Through organizing STEAM education workshops, setting up STEAM laboratories and educational information websites, etc., the plan actively provides relevant education support and training for middle school teachers and students, optimizes the effectiveness of STEAM education practice in middle schools, and cultivates talents with multiple thinking abilities.

To help teachers master the knowledge and skills of implementing STEAM education in schools, a number of STEAM pedagogy workshops have been prepared for participating teachers, focusing on introducing and explaining the direction of promoting STEAM teaching, and sharing how to improve teaching effectiveness and student learning Motivated teaching model.

The project also provides diversified and flexible STEAM teaching materials, so that teachers can integrate different elements of STEAM into the curriculum to match the learning areas (KLA) of the school curriculum, so as to enhance students' learning outcomes and comprehensive abilities in various subjects.

In addition, Metropolitan University has set up the "Hong Kong Metropolitan University Jockey Club STEAM Education Information Website" to provide one-stop STEAM online teaching resources for teachers and students of participating schools.

In addition to being a platform for teachers and students to teach and participate in online workshops, the Information Network also hopes to share high-quality teaching materials through the establishment of an online teaching material database, and provide secondary schools with the latest information and trends in STEAM education.

STEAM education seminars keep pace with the times and exchange teaching experience from all walks of life

Duo University understands that education needs to keep pace with the times, so it plans to hold a STEAM education seminar (Symposium on STEAM Education) every year to gather the latest development trends of STEAM teaching, teachers and peers to share.

In the past three seminars, DTU has not only invited STEAM-related teaching materials and technology companies to introduce the latest technology and teaching support, but also received support from well-known scholars at home and abroad as keynote speakers to share the latest development and global information of STEAM education. The advantages of STEAM education under the rapid development bring valuable exchange experience to participants.

At the same session, a number of secondary school teachers shared their experience in implementing STEAM teaching in schools, and how to integrate various subjects to design a unique school-based curriculum, which will help other teachers to implement STEAM education in schools more smoothly.

Every year, the seminar has received strong support from all parties, and more than 1,000 participants have participated so far.

The education sector can exchange the latest information at the annual STEAM Education Symposium.

Metropolitan University actively invests resources and four laboratories are fully equipped

In order to increase students' interest in learning, the University has specially designed a number of workshops with different themes and forms to further enrich students' learning experience.

The laboratory of Metropolitan University is equipped with various professional instruments such as thermal cycler (PCR), which can help students to complete some more advanced and complex experiments.

The four STEAM laboratories set up by the Jockey Club and supported by the Metropolitan University have their own characteristics. The "Jockey Club STEAM Education Comprehensive Laboratory" integrates wet and dry laboratories to facilitate students to conduct interdisciplinary scientific experiments.

The Jockey Club Creative Media Lab provides students with a suitable virtual reality (VR) experience environment to enhance their interest in science and technology and prepare them for careers in related industries.

The "Jockey Club STEAM Learning and Teaching Laboratory" is equipped with wireless devices to assist teaching facilities, such as an automatic tracking video system, to record the teaching process and help teachers review their teaching performance to make improvements.

The "Jockey Club STEAM Education Laboratory" is located on the Tai Kwai Hing campus. It is a comprehensive laboratory that provides students with various scientific equipment.

The "Jockey Club STEAM Education Comprehensive Laboratory" integrates dry and wet labs (Dry lab and Wet lab) to facilitate students to conduct interdisciplinary scientific experiments.

The Jockey Club STEAM Educational Resource Sharing Program of Metropolitan University is responding to the community's demand for STEAM educational resources, providing one-stop teaching resources and training for secondary schools. More than 70 schools are currently participating.

In order to further promote STEAM teaching, a large number of accessories related to STEAM teaching have been added.

Secondary schools can also make reservations to use other laboratories of the Metropolitan University of Science and Technology to conduct more sophisticated experiments using professional equipment.

In addition, the School of Science and Technology fully supports related projects. In addition to participating in the design of teaching materials, the STEAM teaching team composed of professors and lecturers will personally lead workshops to teach secondary students different scientific and technological knowledge, and even lead students to conduct field trips to get out Classroom, discover new knowledge from daily life.
