There is an apartment available on the roof of Inkofen Castle.

To be more precise: a stork house.

A trick is used to attract animals.

Inkofen

- As part of the joint project "Landscape + people connect - municipalities for the nationwide biotope network" in the federal program biological diversity, a new stork nest was set up at Inkofen Castle under the guidance of the landscape conservation association Freising.

The eyrie with a diameter of 1.50 meters is made of stainless steel and was covered with nesting material and sprayed with white paint to simulate the legacies of the storks.

In this way, the stork should be attracted and immediately feel comfortable because it gives the impression that the eyrie has been inhabited before.

The nesting site prepared in this way was impressively lifted onto the chimney of the castle by the Maier carpentry from Inkofen using a lifting platform.

The eyrie now offers the stork a view of the meadows of the Inkofener Moos, where Master Adebar can find his food.

But it shouldn't stop there.

Since the species and many other bird species in the open country are endangered by a lack of food, the project manager of the landscape conservation association, David Eschler, would like to carry out stock-supporting measures such as the creation of feeding areas in the Ampertal.

Plans include leveling ditches and creating wet extensive meadows.

Landscape conservation association Freising wants to upgrade habitats for animals

Gradually, habitats (biotopes) for animals and plants in the Ampertal are to be upgraded and networked with one another, thus forming a biotope network.

The aim of the biotope network project, which is coordinated by the Heinz Sielmannn Foundation and implemented in various model regions, is to win over municipalities to the practical implementation of biotope network measures.

In the Ampertal model region, the twelve municipalities of the Ampertal are encouraged to participate and supported in the implementation of biotope network measures by the Freising landscape conservation association.

The construction of the stork nest was only possible with the consent of the castle owners, the Graf La Rosée family, the Maier carpentry shop, the Haag municipality involved and the Freising lower nature conservation authority.

The joint project "Landscape + people connect - municipalities for the nationwide biotope network" is funded by the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation with funds from the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection in the Federal Biological Diversity Program.

It is coordinated by the Heinz Sielmann Foundation and implemented in three model regions (Rügen, Grafschaft Bentheim, Freising).

The sub-project of the Freising Landscape Conservation Association in the Ampertal model region is also financed by the Bavarian Nature Conservation Fund.

"We would like to thank everyone involved for their commitment to promoting biodiversity in the Freising district," emphasized the coordinator.

And adds: "If you are also interested or have suggestions for setting up a stork nest in the Ampertal, contact the landscape conservation association." Contact details: Tel. (0 81 61) 60 04 39. "We will support you with the planning, implementation and financing .” Further information can be found on the website at www.biotopverbund.de.
