In response to the enquiry, the Transport Department pointed out that as of April 30 this year, the number of valid full driving license holders aged 90 or above in Hong Kong had more than doubled to 265, compared with 121 at the end of 2017. The age of the holder of a full driving license is 100 years old.


According to the Road Traffic (Driving Licences) Regulations (Cap. 374B) (the Regulations), it is the responsibility of all driving licence holders, including taxi drivers, to ensure that they are fit to drive before driving a vehicle.

The Regulation stipulates that a person aged 70 or above shall, when applying for a full driving licence to drive any type of motor vehicle, be accompanied by a certificate of registered medical practitioner certifying that the person is in a state of health suitable to drive and control that type of vehicle.

According to the data provided by the Transport Department in the past, as of December 31, 2017, the number of valid Hong Kong full driving license holders was about 2.26 million, of which 40,000 were aged 70 to 79; 4,479 were aged 80 to 89 people; 121 people over the age of 90.

"Hong Kong 01" obtained the latest figures from the Transport Department, showing an increase in the number of senior drivers, with more than 75,000 aged 70-79; 6,295 aged 80-89; and 265 aged 90 or above, more than four years more than doubled before.

For the record, the oldest valid full driving license holder is 100 years old.

In addition, the Transport Department recorded a total of 26,190 accidental motor vehicle drivers in 2021, of which 949 were aged 70 or above, accounting for 3.6%.

Among them, 11 drivers aged 85 and above were involved in the accident.

She was later rescued from the carriage without injury.

The police investigated at the scene. The old woman was holding a cane and was suspected of being inconvenient to move. She reported that the accident occurred in the private car due to a mechanical failure.

According to the data, the female driver involved in the incident was the mother of Liang Binglian, the first female university student to be employed.

As for this case, the incident happened at about 7 am on Tuesday (10th), and the police received a report that a private car drove eastbound on Man Kwong Street, Central, near AIA Vitality Park. And crashed more than 3 meters of railings, and then crashed into the "bumper car" amusement equipment.

When the police arrived at the scene, the 93-year-old male private car driver surnamed Huang reported that he could not catch the car and crashed, suffered minor injuries to his hand, and left the carriage by himself. After treatment, he refused to be sent to the hospital.
