The first central theatrical festival of “Young Children for the Young” theater crowned its first session by announcing the names of the winners of its competitions and honoring a number of theatrical artists with important experiences on the Syrian stage.

The festival, which was organized by the Vanguards of the Baath Organization, over 4 days in the Cultural Center in Kafr Sousa, in which 14 bands represented all the Syrian governorates participated. Its closing ceremony included a documentary film entitled “Child’s Theater in Syria”, theatrical performances of puppetry, shadow puppetry, and a dance by the Central Folklore Troupe.

The festival, which was held under the title “Our hope is Bashar, to continue the journey” in cooperation with the Ministries of Tourism, Education, Culture and Information, the Artists Syndicate, and the support of NGOs and private educational institutions. Qualifying the competent cadres in writing the text, directing and scenography, while noting the efforts of the Vanguard Organization in this field.

The jury, consisting of children who are pioneers in Syria in the field of theater for the year 2021, and they are Ward Aldo as president, and the membership of Yasmine Qazazo, Limar Maree and Jana Thaqif, presented the Children’s Audience Award for the play “The Migration of Colors” by writer and director Heba Al-Aridi from the As-Suwayda branch, for consistency between the characters of the work and the beautiful theatrical presence and the role-playing professionally.

The award for the best theatrical text for children went equally between the Aleppo branch for a text titled Salim by the writer Ali Al-Qayyim and the Latakia branch for the playful wolf text by Ghada Ismail. The award for the best theater direction went to director Heba Al-Aridi from the As-Suwayda branch for a play titled Migration of Colors.

The As-Suwayda branch won the Best Child Actor and Best Actress awards in the play “Weird of Colors,” which went to Salim Elba and Miral Salloum. As for the Special Incentive Jury’s award, it went equally between the Idlib and Daraa branches, and the Scenography award was withheld due to the lack of technical level and techniques necessary for this purpose.

In a speech during the closing ceremony, a member of the central leadership of the Arab Socialist Baath Party, head of the Education and Pioneering Office, Yasser Al-Shoufi, pointed out that the festival is a pioneering step in the field of theatrical work and constitutes a turning point through the efforts of a group of artists who contributed to enriching this experience and embodied on the stages the victories achieved by Syria and its valiant army. In all fields.

In a similar speech, the head of the Vanguards of the Ba’ath Organization, Dr. Ezzat Arabi Katbi, considered that theater is the art of representative dialogue to embody ideas, and it is one of the most effective means in education and enlightenment and making room for expressing the feelings, emotions and human experiences that stir in the soul, noting the role of theater in moral education and the development of psychological capabilities. for the child.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Darem Al-Tabbaa, indicated that what the Vanguards of the Baath Organization had achieved was a civilized achievement, wishing that this idea would be included in school curricula because theater is one of the best methods of education.

The head of the Executive Office of the Teachers Syndicate, Waheed Al-Zaal, praised the work of the organization, which used to be distinguished, especially in the field of evaluating creativity by children according to several stages.

Meanwhile, the head of the Artists Syndicate, Mohsen Ghazi, found that theatrical performances entered into a real competition and revealed the real talents of the children to form an incentive to adopt them.


The head of the jury, Maestro Nazih Asaad, said that the Young Children’s Festival is the result of an accumulation of previous experiences in the Vanguard of the Baath Organization, which gathered from a musical theater and one dramatic plot that contains drama, dance, music and many elements of theater, with a discrepancy between the levels of children, which he deems natural in any competition.

Theatrical director Mazen Lotfi, a member of the jury, drew attention to the discrepancy between theatrical performances presented during the evaluation days with the performance of distinguished children, considering at the same time that the festival is the first building block in the field of establishing the pioneering child theater with the need to take academic steps to disseminate children's drama and establish professional theater groups at upcoming festivals.

Head of the Southern Region Branch of the Artists Union and a member of the jury, theatrical actor and director Maan Dwaier spoke about the existence of a partnership between the union and the Vanguard of the Baath Organization to qualify new generations of artists to move forward towards professionalism and to develop scientific and practical plans for training and development, wishing theatrical movement continued in all governorates.

Children's writer and member of the jury, Areej Bawadakji, described her experience as important, especially after seeing theatrical works for youngsters, indicating that the next stage will witness more exercises in terms of directing and scripts, with the development of the work of the children's jury.

As for Aldo, the head of the children’s jury, pointed out that the committee was keen to follow up all theatrical performances of all branches accurately, with impartiality in evaluation in terms of performance, theatrical presence, the idea of ​​the text and its significance in the cultural, educational, moral aspects and children’s rights, and setting an evaluation schedule for the performances presented in privacy and confidentiality through cooperation with The theater and music office in the Vanguard Organization.

Yasmine Qazazo, a member of the children's jury, described her participation in the festival as wonderful and distinguished plays, through which she learned to assume responsibility through credibility in the evaluation, in addition to confidence in herself.

The writer and play director for children Heba Al-Aridi from the As-Suwayda branch, who won the best director award, expressed her happiness with the honor, which was a reward for the efforts of the children who stood on this stage to continue success and progress for the better.

The winners of the Best Child Actor and Actress award, Salim Elba and Miral Salloum, expressed their joy at being honored, because theater is a way for them to express their feelings and show their talents, expressing their hope that they will become theater artists in the future.
