The hard sector led by Borràs will gain weight in the future leadership of Junts

The president of the Parliament and Jordi Turull close 'in extremis' a single list for the congress next June

Junts per Catalunya has overcome the first obstacle until the June congress.

Their two souls have agreed this Tuesday

in extremis on

a single list that avoids further angering the internal discussion at the meeting to be held in the south of France.

The official message wanted to be that of the virtues of the sum, but the terms of the pact show that the sector led by Laura Borràs has managed to prevail over that of the former Minister of the Presidency, Jordi Turull.

Those in favor of a more confrontational path with the Government, such as the President of the Parliament, have managed to gain executive weight and take over key positions such as the organization's secretary.

The unitary list establishes that Borràs opt for the presidency of the formation that Carles Puigdemont still leads while Turull is located as general secretary.

This is a formula that had already been defended in a manifesto, last week, by a large part of the party's top officials.

They assured that it was the way to avoid the schism.

To accept it, however, training sources have explained that the condition of the leader of the Chamber has been that the figure of the presidency be reformed so that it includes executive powers.

“We will draw more from common sense than from the statutes”, Turull replied when asked about what the final photo of the attributions of each of the positions would look like.

“The president will have functions that we will share almost 90 or 100%.

Let's go to one", added the former counselor.

That gray area can be a big problem, especially in a party that tries to cover almost the entire ideological spectrum and whose only real meeting point so far has been the figure of Puigdemont and the mandate they claim emanates from the 2017 referendum, which the Court Constitutional declared illegal.

No one doubts Borràs and Turull's commitment to independence, but their accents and ways of doing things are very different.

Until now, this difference between both sectors (some independent, landed in politics after 1-O and others from the convergent party culture) had generated friction.

For example, with the policy of municipal agreements with the PSC.

But the power relations within the party structure had always been in favor of the more pragmatic and governing party thesis that Turull embodies.

The new agreement gives Borràs's supporters 50% of the seats in the Executive, two vice-presidencies and the organization's secretariat.

This last position is key, taking into account the proximity of the municipal elections.

The proposed name is that of David Torrents, the strong man of the party in Badalona,

mosso de profges

and who is known for supporting conspiracy theories about the jihadist attacks in Barcelona in 2017. Although his colleagues in the ranks recognize his ability to work and his results in that municipality (Junts has suffered a lot in the metropolitan area) they doubt their capacity for the new task.

“You look at his Twitter and he is a firebrand.

The Borràs style”, comments a position close to Turull.

Two people of the maximum confidence to the president of the Parlament, the deputies Aurora Madaula and Francesc de Dalmases, land in two of the vice-presidencies.

There will also be Jaume Cuevillas or Joan Canadell, among others.

Doubts about Giró's eligibility

Another name that has surprised in the candidacy proposal, which still has to request the guarantees and be approved by the training, is that of the current Minister of Economy, Jordi Giró.

The former position of several Ibex-35 companies landed in the Catalan Government at the proposal of Junts and had always presumed his independent character.

The protagonism that has given him, for example, getting the Budgets approved has placed him within the cabal as a possible candidate for some of the future electoral appointments.

But there was a problem: he was not a member of Junts, just a supporter.

However, his name appears on the list of candidates to occupy a chair in the direction.

The curious thing is that the party's statutes establish that a minimum of 6 months of seniority as a militant is required to be eligible for a position.

In the match they indicate that Giró has been active since November of last year, right at the normative limit.

From his environment they told this newspaper, in January of this year, that the

Minister

planned to join soon.

Giró himself assured last March, both in El Punt Avui and in Catalunya Ràdio that he continued without doing so.

His environment pointed to that possibility last January.

In the Department of Economy they defend that Giró had not made the affiliation public until now to avoid "more noise" in the internal debate of Junts.

The census of militants is protected by the Data Protection Law and therefore it is impossible to know officially when the procedure was carried out.
