The Knesset Health Committee convened today (Tuesday) for a special discussion on the deaths of three inmates at the Dafna Residence in Holon, after an investigation by the Ministry of Health revealed that their deaths were caused by a serious infection in the residence's kitchen and the use of spoiled meat.

As part of the serious incident, 33 residents fell ill with the same food poisoning, nine were evacuated to the hospital for treatment and six were hospitalized.

One of the residents of the institution died within its walls, and another and two in the hospital.

The Ministry of Health last night published its findings in the examination committee, but today at the hearing, its representatives admitted that despite the deficiencies identified, it is not possible to know the exact cause of death.

"We will not know for sure if they died from the bacterium," a ministry spokesman said.

"There are no samples from the deceased and they have already been buried."

We also discussed the spoiled meat at the residence and the sources estimate, "This can only happen in the storage of the hostel. The meat supplier's license was renewed recently and it works well."

According to Ministry of Health officials, the bacterium found in the meat matched the bacterium found in the inpatients.

"Thankfully we did not take samples from the deceased," they said, so it is not known if these died as a result of the same bacterium.

Despite the severity of the incident, the directors or ministers of the Ministries of Health and Welfare did not come to the committee, but only junior representatives were sent.
