The deputy head of the mission of the Turkish embassy in Santo Domingo confirmed to CNN on Tuesday the kidnapping of eight Turkish citizens who were traveling from the Dominican capital to Port-au-Prince on Sunday in a private bus.
The Turkish diplomat, who did not want to be identified, told Noticias SIN that they remain in constant communication with the Haitian government to manage the release of their nationals.

The Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic, Jatzel Román, revealed that the authorities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs met on Monday morning with relatives of the Dominican driver to inform them of the efforts that the country is making for his return.

For his part, the deputy chief of mission of the Turkish embassy reported that he is working together with the Dominican and Haitian authorities to achieve the rescue of the eight Turks who were traveling on the bus.
The diplomat did not want to give details about the kidnapping and if they have had contact with the kidnappers.
