A passenger with no prior flight experience landed a private jet safely at a Florida airport yesterday (Tuesday) after the pilot lost consciousness.

The passenger, who was on his way home to see his wife who was pregnant, was on a Cessna 208 caravan flight from the Beast Islands to Florida when the drama began.

"There's a serious situation here," the passenger was heard saying, according to LiveATC.net, to the Fort Pierce air traffic control while flying over the Florida coastline.

"My pilot is not fully conscious. I have no idea how to fly the plane," he added.

The airport controller replied, "I got it. What's your location?"

"I have no idea," the passenger replied.

"I can see the Florida coastline in front of me. And I have no idea."

"Try to keep the wings of the plane balanced and start lowering the fly. Push forward the rudders and lower rose slowly," the inspector replied.

"Try flying along the shoreline in a north or south direction. We're trying to locate you."

"Great job"

With the help of air traffic control, the passenger remained calm and professionally landed the Cessna at Palm Beach International Airport.

Another aviation controller updated other aircraft on what was happening.

"You just saw a pair of passengers landing this plane," the controller told an American Airlines pilot waiting to take off at the airport.

"Did you say passengers landed the plane?"

Asked American Airlines pilot.

"My God, great job," he added.

A spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that an investigation had been opened into the incident, and that the pilot apparently suffered from a "medical problem" - although he did not provide further details about his condition.

"Two people were on the single-engine plane when the pilot apparently suffered a medical problem," the aviation authority said in a statement.
