The American newspaper "The Week" confirmed that the United States' continued neglect of Russia's concerns about the expansion of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization "NATO" to the east and its approach to its borders led to an escalation in Ukraine, noting that this escalation could have been avoided if the American side had dealt seriously.
The newspaper pointed out that Russia's concerns about NATO approaching its borders were expected and the crisis could have been avoided if Washington dealt with these concerns seriously, indicating that the description of NATO as "defensive in nature" is wrong.
The newspaper pointed out that the White House refused, on the eve of the Russian special military operation in Ukraine, to discuss the questions posed by Moscow about NATO’s expansion, considering that “the United States created the worst possible situation for Ukraine by making it a puppet of NATO on Russia’s doorstep and without a security umbrella from the alliance.”
Moscow had repeatedly warned that NATO's eastward expansion towards its borders would undermine European security and pose a major threat to Russia's security at a time when NATO continued to intensify its military presence near the Russian borders, mobilize its forces and conduct maneuvers along the border with Russia.
