Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said today (Wednesday) that the Palestinian journalist who was shot dead in Jenin, Sheerin Abu Akla, was killed as a result of Palestinian fire.
Bennett made the remarks after Palestinian Authority Chairman Abu Mazen blamed Israel for her death

He said, "According to the data we have at the moment, there is a good chance that armed Palestinians, who fired wildly, were the ones who caused the unfortunate death of the journalist.
At the same time as Bennett, the IDF spokesman released a video showing Palestinian gunmen firing indiscriminately, claiming that the journalist was shot in this incident. Foreign Minister Yair Lapid said that Israel offered the Palestinians a joint pathological investigation into the journalist's death and called the incident unfortunate. Journalists in battlefields and we have a duty to get to the truth.
"Israel's security forces will continue to operate everywhere to prevent terrorism and the murder of Israelis," Lapid said.

US Ambassador to Israel Tom Nides confirmed that journalist Sheerin Abu Akla was an American citizen.
"I call for a thorough investigation into the circumstances of her death," Nides said.
