Math, math, math.
While the 142,730 General Terminal students who have chosen the mathematics specialty pass their baccalaureate test this Wednesday or Thursday, and this subject should return to the common core in high school from next school year, Martin Andler, professor emeritus at the University of Versailles Saint-Quentin and vice-president of the Animath association, was the guest of RTL on Tuesday, May 10 in the morning.
After an eight-minute interview devoted to the level of students in mathematics, the importance of this subject in daily life and in professional life, as well as the low number of girls opting for this discipline, journalist Alba Ventura launched to his guest:
"Sorry to put the foot in the dish, but are the math teachers well trained?"

“Let's talk about school teachers first.

, a very large majority of them have an extremely low level in mathematics because they are people who have done a Literary baccalaureate and who therefore stopped math in second.
[…] At the secondary level, what we know is that we have a problem with the attractiveness of the profession of maths teacher.
Someone who has studied math can do a lot of jobs […] that allow you to earn a lot more.
[…] So teacher recruitment competitions have a very, very difficult time attracting candidates.
Today, the level of recruitment of new mathematics teachers is rather low because there are not enough candidates.
Do school teachers come mostly from literary and not scientific backgrounds?
And does National Education really recruit low-level secondary school mathematics teachers?
