Finalists also convince at press conference after ESC semi-finals: Ukraine and Iceland emotionally

May 11, 12:13 a.m.:

The musicians from Ukraine, who were considered favorites, have now also appeared at the press conference.

There they express themselves briefly but clearly and thank them for the great support: “We are very happy to have been selected for the final.

We are grateful for everyone who supports Ukraine.”

May 10th, 11:50 p.m.:

Systur, who could almost be considered a bit of a secret favourite, are now at the ESC press conference.

There they send a clear signal: “It means the world to us to be further.

We are often forgotten as a small country, as a quiet song.

We want to bring hope to people who are going through hard times and are suffering, like Ukraine for example or also because of COVID-19.

We should all stick together!”

May 10th , 11:40 p.m.:

Now the first “Eurovision Song Contest” press conferences of the lucky finalists are coming up.

IPPEN.MEDIA reporter Mario Hanousek is on site for us.

Marius Baer from Switzerland openly reveals there: “I died inside when the announcement was made.

I got a lot of hate when the song was released, I was under so much pressure it's gone now."

All 17 acts at the "first Eurovision Song Contest" semi-final at a glance: That was the ESC show

May 10 , 10:25 p.m.:

Rosa Linn closes the evening of the first “Eurovision Song Contest” semi-final for Armenia.

The Armenian singer-songwriter likes it emotional and now hopes to get her country's final ticket.

It is now difficult for the spectators: who deserves to win one of the ten places in the final?

May 10th , 10:17 p.m.:

“Masked Singer” meets “Eurovision Song Contest”: To this day it is not known exactly who is under the wolf masks of Norway.

Here in Turin, the two singers don't say anything in interviews either, instead they just gesticulate wildly and let their interpreter "translate" it.

Musically, the danceable number leaves little to be desired.

The Scandinavians can also look forward to some on-site support, as IPPEN.MEDIA field reporter Mario Hanousek reported in Turin in advance.

May 10, 10:17 p.m.:

Greece tries it in the first minute with reverberation on the voice, very close camera angles and an interesting stage performance (many broken and fallen chairs).

The song is touching and gives you goosebumps, the Greek's voice is impressive.

Nevertheless, it will be difficult to really qualify in view of the top-class competition.

First "Eurovision Song Contest" semi-final nearing the end: Iceland could be the secret favourite

May 10th, 10:12 p.m.: Iceland has family power: The three Systur

sisters make it sound mystical to the northern lights and remind us of the many great folk bands that the sparsely populated Scandinavian island has produced.

In any case, "Með hækkandi sól" should have stuck in the ears of the ESC fans.

Are these the secret favourites?

May 10, 10:07 p.m .:

Austria has to tremble about entering the “Eurovision Song Contest” final.

If the betting providers have their way, our neighbors are wobbling between 10th and 11th place.

While the song by the successful DJ LUM!X already has several million streams and is all over the radio (also here in Italy), Pia Maria in particular has been struggling with voice problems at live performances in recent weeks.

It has gotten much better in the last few days, it remains to be seen whether the dance hit will get Europe off the sofa and pick up the phone.

In any case, the performance is successful without any complications.

"Eurovision Song Contest" semi-finals are in full swing: Moldova exudes the ESC spirit

May 10, 9:58 p.m.:

With Mia Dimšić (Croatia), one could almost think that a European version of US pop star Taylor Swift was on stage.

"Guilty Pleasure" sounds amazingly like the pop folk of the celebrated country star.

The spectators themselves don't really seem over the moon compared to the previous performances.

All the more there is clapping along at REDDI from Denmark.

The Scandinavians rock as much as they can and with their catchy song they will probably give one or the other ESC fan a stubborn catchy tune.

May 10th , 9:47 p.m.:

With Zdob și Zdub & Frații Advahov (Moldova) and “Trenulețul”, train travel is fun for everyone: It is ESC acts like this one that make the competition live: colourful, flashy, crazy, but always friendly.

Musically, the artists convince with a mixture of folk, ska and rock 'n' roll.

Good mood guaranteed!

Maro from Portugal, on the other hand, relies on more contemplative sounds - instead, the audience's cell phone lights go on.

The stage show, on the other hand, remains simple.

Colorful "Eurovision Song Contest" semi-final inspires fans: Ukraine gives goose bumps

May 10th, 9:40 p.m.:

For Bulgaria, Intelligent Music Project really rocks with “Intention” and finally sets a sign that we will probably see one or the other time in a different form at the “Eurovision Song Contest”: One Peace dove symbolically rises to the sky.

"De diepte" by S10 is also well received by the audience - maybe even a bit better!

The young Dutch woman relies on a lot of emotion.

May 10th , 9:30 p.m.:

It is the moment that many “Eurovision Song Contest” fans have been waiting for: Kalush Orchestra are on stage with “Stefania” for Ukraine and show why the country is one of the absolute ESC -Favorites this year counts: The lamenting folk piece with rap elements speaks for itself - and given the current situation in Europe, could hardly be more appropriate.

At the end, the whole hall claps along and cheers loudly for the Ukrainians in solidarity.

"Eurovision Song Contest" semi-final opened: Albania with fiery beats, Latvia with a strong message

May 10th, 9:25 p.m.:

Heartbreak mood comes from Switzerland thanks to “Boys Do Cry” by Marius Bear.

The start of the “Eurovision Song Contest” is already colourful, varied and coherent.

The Slovenian band LPS performs with a large disco ball.

LPS stands for Last Pizza Slice.

It's no coincidence that the five look like they've just come from confirmation.

LPS is a group formed in 2018 as a school band, the singer is just 18 years old.

May 10 , 9:20 p.m.:

Citi Zēni (Latvia) not only ensure the best party mood with “Eat Your Salad” in Turin, but also sing a moody anthem with an environmental message with “Eat Your Salad”.

The audience rewards the group with loud applause.

Monika Liu (Lithuania) celebrates the ESC evening a little more gently, but no less atmospherically.

May 10 , 9:15 p.m

.: Ronela Hajati kicks things off for Albania with fiery beats, modern R'n'B sound and folkloric elements.

Last week there was a stir about her performance during rehearsals: she was accused of being too erotic.

In the meantime, she even wanted to give up: "Let this be over quickly," wrote Ronela on Twitter a few days ago about her time in Turin.

But: She has found her way back into the competition, on stage you don't notice anything about the problems that have occurred in the meantime.

"Eurovision Song Contest" semi-finals celebrate the start: ESC drone Leo accompanies the show in Turin

May 10 , 9:00 p.m.:

At the start of the semi-finals of the "Eurovision Song Contest", Italy dug deep into its bag of tricks: the ESC drone Leo is presented in a cute little film that is vaguely reminiscent of the Italian children's book classic Pinocchio.

She accompanies the evening and films the performances of the candidates.

Afterwards, an elaborate light and laser show and some breathtaking choreographies are on the program for the opening.

However, the fans are waiting in vain for last year's winner Måneskin - the rock band will not appear until the final on Saturday evening.

"Eurovision Song Contest" semi-finals are coming up: 35 nations are fighting for a place in the ESC final

25 nations will compete in the final of the "Eurovision Song Contest" on Saturday evening (May 14), but before that, in two semi-finals (May 10 + May 12), 17 and 18 candidates each have to fight for ten starting places per round (a total of 20). line up

Germany (Malik Harris at ESC 2022), France, Spain, the United Kingdom and hosts and last year's winner Italy (here all ESC candidates 2022) have already qualified.

These countries are considered the “Big Five”.

Russia was disqualified in advance because of the Ukraine war.

A Russian participation would "bring the music competition into disrepute," said the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), which is responsible for the ESC.

The otherwise neutral “Eurovision Song Contest” is therefore more political than ever this year.

Ukraine, on the other hand, has a good chance of winning if you want to believe the bookmakers.

At least they made their final entry perfectly on Tuesday evening.
