Feijóo raises the tone against Sánchez and accuses him of presiding over "the worst government of democracy"

The leader of the PP maintains that the Executive "erodes the foundations of democracy" with the 'Pegasus case', converted for him into a "state crisis"

Alberto Núñez Feijóo raises the tone to the maximum against Pedro Sánchez.

The leader of the PP has taken 24 hours to make an in-depth assessment of the dismissal of the director of the CNI, Paz Esteban - on Tuesday he spoke only with a tweet - and, after waiting, he has gone on to attack the president of the Government .

In an appearance before journalists this Wednesday in Santiago de Compostela, Feijóo has accused the Executive of "eroding the foundations of democracy" with the

Pegasus case

, which in his opinion has become a "state crisis".

The head of the conservatives has not spared disqualifications: he believes that the socialist presides over "the worst government of democracy" and is "a caricature of a president."

The dismissal of the director of the secret services after the scandal over espionage on the independence leaders and on the cell phone of the Prime Minister and the Ministers of Defense and Interior has opened a gap between the Executive and the main opposition party.

With the arrival of Feijóo to the presidency of the Popular Party, a little over a month ago, the conservative formation opened a stage of willingness to agree with the Government and lowered the tone with respect to that of Pablo Casado's PP, although in practice that turn It had not yet been translated into any significant agreement and Feijóo ordered to oppose the decree with aid to alleviate the consequences of the war in Ukraine.

However, the crisis over the

Pegasus case

has muddied the waters further and distances the Government and the PP again.

The conservatives return to the most critical discourse against the progressive coalition Executive and to the language of "humiliation" and "shame".

Feijóo has criticized the dismissal of the director of the CNI "without a single explanation" and as a "scapegoat" for the espionage crisis that shakes Spanish politics.

"Yesterday the Government took another step in a drift that does not seem to have a possible return", the PP leader has complained from Galicia.

"President Sánchez has surrendered to the demands of some partners who have proven insatiable," he criticized before launching a list of questions on the air about the

Pegasus case.

“We still don't know who has been investigated, spied on and why.

Who ordered the wiretaps and what motivated those investigations”, he lamented, “if the president was not aware of what the CNI is doing.

We still don't know why the government talks about internal and external espionage, what information was spied on the president's cell phone and if that information compromises the actions of the president of the government.

And if that information compromises the independence of the President of the Government, and if that information compromises the security of the State.

We continue, in short, without any kind of explanation”.

The PP considers that this crisis harms the image of Spain abroad and "weakens the nation", said Feijóo, who has also argued that the progressive Executive leaves it touched.

"We are witnessing a self-immolation of the Government that is damaging Spain," said the popular leader.

However, the opposition leader has assured that he is still willing to reach state agreements and has not withdrawn his offer of a pact for security that he proposed to the Executive on Monday, although he has not yet revealed any details of that agreement proposal .

Lastra criticizes Feijóo's "lack of sense of state"

The deputy secretary general of the PSOE, Adriana Lastra, has accused Feijóo of acting "with the same irresponsibility and lack of sense of state" as his predecessor at the head of the PP.

“They are the same forms and ways of Pablo Casado, but a little slower.

Feijóo brags that he can reach agreements with the Government, but he never wants to, he has not done it when he has had the opportunity, like with the Judiciary... That really hurts the institutions”, criticized the

number two

of the socialists, informs

José Marcos.

The body of the judges has been pending renewal for three and a half years.

"I recommend that you measure your words, plot is what [the PP] did in the Ministry of the Interior with Kitchen," Lastra continued, referring to parapolice espionage on former popular treasurer Luis Bárcenas.

The PSOE's response to Feijóó has been to remind him of the cases of corruption of the popular like Gürtel, which motivated the 2018 motion of censure against Mariano Rajoy.

"This is not a distant past, almost every day we learn of one more name and one more case of corruption in the PP... Feijóó became president of the PP in exchange for silencing corruption in the PP", he referred, linking the replacement of Casado with the crisis that broke out in the match for the contract, under investigation, of the brother of Isabel Díaz Ayuso with the Community of Madrid at the beginning of the pandemic.

“The sad conclusion is that Feijóo is more of the same in the PP.
