FIFA has opened an investigation into allegations that Ecuador used an ineligible player in its Qatar World Cup qualifying campaign, world soccer's governing body said on Wednesday.
The Chilean Football Federation assured last week that it had proof that Byron Castillo was born in 1995 in Tumaco, Colombia, and not in the Ecuadorian city of General Villamil Playas in 1998, as stated in its official documents.
