Import 20 liters of rape drug: Rotem Fried convicted and sentenced to three years in prison Israel today

2022-05-11T11:48:38.559Z

Fried brought hundreds of doses of drugs into the country while using fake names and different addresses • "Each dose could ruin an entire life," the prosecutor's office said

The Jerusalem District Court sentenced Rotem Fried, who was convicted, according to his plea, in a plea bargain, of committing offenses of importing a dangerous drug, three years in prison, probation, a fine and disqualification of a driver's license.

It was also determined that the defendant is a drug dealer.

According to the amended indictment, from August 2020 until Fried's arrest about a year later, he acted to import into Israel a GBL-type drug known as the "rape drug."

Defendant acted systematically and subtly, using pseudonyms, using a prepaid telephone device, which did not allow for tracing their owners and using various addresses, including the use of his family members.

The defendant imported drugs into Israel on ten different occasions with a total volume of at least 20.87 liters.

In the sentencing arguments, the prosecution emphasized that the severity of the offenses was due to the long period of time during which the offenses were committed, with great sophistication which included disguising the packages as cleaning materials, using the defendant's family details and fake addresses and names to obtain the drug and using phones.

In addition, the prosecution pointed out the great damage that was expected to be caused by the drug the defendant would import, given the hundreds of drug doses that could be produced from each liter of drug and while each dose could ruin an entire life.

The prosecution petitioned to determine in the case of the defendant an appropriate sentence of between three and six years in practice and to sentence him to four years in prison.

The court ruled that "this is therefore an offense with the potential for very serious harm, far beyond the great harm inherent in the actual use of other types of drugs prohibited by law.

"The manner in which the defendant behaved, who acted to conceal the offenses with great sophistication, indicates that he fully understood his actions and what was wrong with them, and in any case he could have avoided it."
