The Iranian Ministry of Intelligence today (Wednesday) arrested two European citizens on suspicion of "promoting chaos" in the country, during a visit to Tehran by the European Union's nuclear commissioner in Vienna, Henrika More.
The Iranian news agency ISNA reported that Iranian authorities announced this morning that the two detainees "initiated chaos and social disorder" and "created insecurity" aimed at undermining stability in the country and "promoting unrest and incitement" within the Islamic Republic.
The only description of the detainees was that they were two "experienced agents," the report said.
In the official statement, the authorities refrained from detailing information about the circumstances of the arrest or a description of the countries of origin of the suspects
The incident takes place against the background of the visit of the nuclear mediator, Mura, to Tehran in an attempt to resolve the deadlock into which negotiations with the world powers have fallen - after eight rounds without results.
