Since Emmanuel Macron's victory, the President of the Republic has made the suspense last over the appointment of Jean Castex's successor.

The appointment shouldn't take too long.

While Emmanuel Macron was re-elected two and a half weeks ago, the President of the Republic, faithful to his reputation as a master of clocks, is taking his time to choose the successor to Jean Castex at Matignon, in place since 2020. If several names have been mentioned in the press, a good part of the French have already had an idea of the profile of the Prime Minister who would best meet their expectations.

According to an Ifop poll for

Le JDD

,

49% of them hope that the next tenant of Matignon will be a left-wing personality.

In detail, it is the young people, potentially those who voted the most for Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who want a head of government of this tendency.

Another element to take into account, this same desire among supporters of the RN and those of the presidential party.

Because if obviously 92% of left-wing voters want their ideas to come to power, a third of Emmanuel Macron's supporters and 25% of Marine Le Pen's supporters also aspire to it.

A non-negligible part which is partly explained by the expression of the popular categories of wanting to benefit from more social measures.

After a farewell dinner to be held Thursday evening at Matignon, Jean Castex will, in all likelihood, submit his resignation and that of his government in the coming days to Emmanuel Macron.

The choice of the new Prime Minister and the new team should take place in the hours that will follow.
