An earthquake measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale hit northwestern Argentina.
Reuters quoted the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center as saying in a statement today, "The earthquake, which occurred at a depth of 182 km below the surface of the Earth, was monitored near the Jujuy region in Argentina."
There were no reports of human casualties or material damage as a result of the earthquake.
