The 17th International Scientific Conference of the Syrian Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, which kicked off today at Damaroz Hotel in Damascus, focuses on new horizons in infertility, assisted fertilization, laparoscopic surgery, maternal and fetal medicine, and gynecological oncology.
The conference, which continues until the 13th of this month, includes 44 scientific lectures and presentation of some clinical cases through 8 sessions, with the participation of doctors from Arab and foreign countries.
In a statement to the media during the opening, the Minister of Health, Dr. Hassan Al-Ghobash, explained that the conference opens a wide field to learn about the latest developments in modern research and methods of medical and therapeutic practice, improving performance and providing the best services to patients.
According to Dr. Al-Ghubash, the ministry works to provide services in the field of gynecological diseases and reproductive health in general, to provide treatment services free of charge or almost free, and to allocate natural birth centers in a number of governorates, noting the importance of medical services provided to save the lives of mothers and infants and improve public health.
In turn, the President of the Syrian Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, Dr. Marwan Al-Halabi, indicated that the conference aims mainly to raise the scientific and practical level of doctors and students through qualitative lectures, in addition to exchanging experiences, posing some local problems and reaching solutions to them.
In a statement to Sana Bayn, Director of Al-Zahrawi Hospital, Dr. Ali Mohsen, that his lecture talks about the placenta inserted in the bladder, which is a rare pathology that affects pregnant women as a result of repeated caesarean sections and leads to death with an incidence of less than 3%, pointing out that its occurrence is mitigated by avoiding births. Caesarean section and not resort to it only in cases of necessity.
From Jordan, the representative of the British Royal College in Jordan, Syria and Palestine, Dr. Mazen Al-Zibdah, highlighted the importance of holding joint Arab conferences to serve the Arab citizen, pointing out that his lecture deals with the issue of recurrent abortion and developments related to this topic, while the President of the Jordanian Society for Fertility and Genetics, Dr. Khaldoun Khamaiseh, explained that his lecture talks about fibrosis. The uterus and its effect on infertility and cases that undergo IVF operations.
From Egypt, the head of the Clinical Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Abu Bakr Al-Nashar, explained that he participates in 4 lectures that talk about diseases that affect girls and the method of early diagnosis and correct treatment to ensure that they do not affect reproduction, in addition to diagnosing and preventing premature birth based on evidence-based medicine.
From Lebanon, Dr. Antoine Maalouf, head of the Mashreq Hospital, stated that cooperation between Syria and Lebanon in medical conferences has been going on for more than 20 years, which is essential in the development of medical sciences, pointing out that work is currently underway to introduce robotic surgery to Syria.
The conference will be accompanied by an exhibition of medical and pharmaceutical equipment that highlights the activities of health and pharmaceutical institutions.
