Opinion | The War on Consciousness: The Palestinian Version Will Win Anyway Israel today

2022-05-11T21:06:23.159Z

The death of journalist Al-Jazeera once again raises the issue of the purity of the IDF's weapons and morality. Embarrassed her and her whole information system

Sheerin Abu Akala, a journalist from Qatari Al-Jazeera station, was in the wrong place at the wrong time - but that, in itself, does not remove responsibility from the person who caused her killing.

The nature of the work of journalists is to be in the arenas of various events, also of exchanges of fire and confrontations, and as someone who has been quite a bit in such arenas I can attest to the difficulty and danger posed to a journalist who does his job professionally.

I have often met Sheerin and other colleagues from all over the world in similar circumstances, and luckily we left safely.

This time Sheerin's luck did not shine on her.

Sheerin's death is undoubtedly a tragic event for the Arab and international press community, which covers the conflict with the Palestinians, and those responsible - whoever they may be - must pay the price.

But in the war of conflicting versions in such cases, it will be difficult to determine who is to blame for her killing and who exactly pulled the trigger and pulled out the bullet that put an end to the journalist's life.

With the announcement of Sheerin's death, the war on consciousness began.

The Palestinian narrative wins as usual and finds a sympathetic ear, understanding and also identification in the Arab world and in large parts of the West.

I do not state here that Israel is to blame for its death, even before all the circumstances have been clarified and all the necessary steps have been taken to arrive at the truth.

But from my experience in such cases I can determine that the Palestinian version, even if it turns out to be false in the future, will defeat the Israeli version - see the case of the boy Muhammad a-Dura in 2000 in Gaza, who was killed in circumstances very similar to those in which Sheerin lost her life.

Israel is perceived as the strong side.

Its army is orderly and organized, with values and a system of control and scrutiny, while the Palestinians are perceived as the weak and poor side occupied by Israel, and so the world tends to forget their mistakes and back them up - even when gunmen riot in the streets and shoot indiscriminately, sometimes using journalists as shields Will aim at journalists.

The death of journalist al-Jazeera once again raises the issue of the purity of weapons and the moral army within Israeli society, and there will be those who will take advantage of the event to emphasize their views for or against the solution with the Palestinians.

Once again the IDF will be in the eye of the storm, and once again the questions and concerns surrounding the purity of weapons and the morality of an army operating in areas of occupation will be flooded.

In my opinion, no matter how hard Israel tries to explain its version in the world - still one hard picture or killed on the Palestinian side will embarrass the entire State of Israel and its entire information system.
