The elementary school at Gerner Platz will also offer an open all-day school from autumn.

Puchheim – The social committee of the city council has now unanimously cleared the way for the previous lunchtime care, which parents could book for a fee, to be replaced by a free school offer.

Parents can choose whether they want their children to be looked after until two or four in the afternoon.

The short full day includes play and lunch after class.

With longer bookings, homework supervision and subsequent project work are possible.

According to a survey by the school, more than half of the 265 families who responded are definitely or perhaps interested in the new model.

As it turned out, there are quite a few who are bothered by the rigid occupancy times.

The main point of criticism: the children can no longer be picked up at three o'clock.

However, this date is the ideal time for many part-time employees, explained Stephan Wenig from the Parents' Council to the committee.

Of course you can still "vacuum clean for an hour" before picking up the little ones.

But many parents just wanted to spend time with their own children right after work.

After all, 67 legal guardians joined a corresponding online petition.

Rector Ruth Frank-Amberger and Tanja Sagerer, the previous head of lunchtime care and future all-day coordinator, referred to government regulations that only provide two times for the end of school.

However, one wants to check whether there is a possibility to look after the three o'clock children in a kind of free group, provided that there are sufficient staff and premises for this.

However, this extra offer would then have to be financed by the parents.

There are already three classes at Gerner Platz that also have lessons in the afternoons in so-called all-day classes.

But the open all-day is also considered to be educationally sensible - especially for children of financially less well-off parents who could not or did not want to afford the previous lunchtime care.

Around 160 children were last registered there, before the corona pandemic it was well over 200.

According to the current, still non-binding status, two-thirds of parents will opt for the shorter, full day.

Of course, it is still possible to pick up the children around noon after the regular end of the school day.
