Director of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform in Deir ez-Zor, Eng. Asaad Al-Toukan, pointed out that large areas of land were out of service due to their systematic sabotage at the hands of terrorist gangs, indicating that with the liberation of the province from the abomination of terrorism at the end of 2017, the gradual return to the production wheel began, and a top priority was the rehabilitation of projects Agricultural irrigation that took place in concert with governmental and civil efforts in cooperation with international organizations.

Al-Toukan explained that the number of agricultural irrigation projects that were rehabilitated and put into service amounted to 130 projects distributed over the entire area of ​​the governorate, in addition to the rehabilitation of government irrigation projects in the third and fifth sectors, which led to the expansion of the governorate’s area in addition to the rehabilitation of government irrigation projects in the third sectors And the fifth, which led to the expansion of the area of ​​agricultural lands involved in the production process, which this season amounted to about 45 thousand hectares, which are cultivated with all strategic crops, most notably wheat, cotton and barley, in addition to vegetables and yellow corn.

The Director of Operation and Maintenance in the Lower Euphrates Basin, Engineer Hussein Hamdan, pointed out that the government irrigation projects formed the basis for the return of production in the agricultural sector after the rehabilitation and maintenance of the irrigation projects in the third and fifth sectors in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor, and they were put into service at the end of the year 2020, indicating that the government irrigation project for the sector The third irrigates an area of ​​10,905 hectares, while the fifth irrigates an area of ​​3565 hectares.

Eng. Hamdan pointed out that earlier this year, the rehabilitation of the seventh sector in Al-Bukamal, which irrigates an area of ​​7,582 hectares, is expected to enter service in the next winter season, and technical studies have been completed to begin the rehabilitation of the Al-Wafa sector in the Al-Bukamal countryside, which irrigates an area of ​​1,320 hectares.

Head of the Farmers’ Union branch in Deir ez-Zor Khazan Al-Sahwa indicated that the return of irrigation projects contributes to securing irrigation water, which is the most important part of the production process requirements and played an important role in the return and stability of farmers in their villages and lands, praising the government’s efforts to rehabilitate irrigation projects and the measures taken by all parties The concerned authorities were concerned with overcoming the problem of the low level of the Euphrates River, and it greatly affected the work of agricultural irrigation projects, as government agencies made great efforts, represented by providing special engineering equipment to isolate and dredging water supply channels, which contributed to securing water for agricultural lands.
