MK Yoav Galant will today (Wednesday) raise in the plenum the first proposal from a series of laws dealing with the illegal use of weapons as well as injury through illegal weapons.
The purpose of the bill is to assist in the war on violence and rising crime by aggravating punishment and setting minimum penalties for offenses of unlawful possession of a weapon.
The bill will assist in the war on the possession, trade and use of unlicensed weapons, the widespread distribution of which supports the activities of criminal organizations and serious offenses in the State of Israel.

The bill stipulates the following penalties: possession of a weapon may lead to three years in prison, use of a weapon - four to six years in prison, and trade in a weapon - seven years in prison.
It is also proposed to stipulate that the punishment for weapons use offenses will be solely actual imprisonment and will not allow imprisonment through service work.
"It is impossible for the shooters at Soroka Hospital and the police stations in the Galilee to be arrested and released shortly.
