In the heart of Sieverodonetsk, a fire truck slaloms to avoid the electric cables that hang like creepers across the road.

On the main avenue, facades blackened by flames, buildings reduced to crumbs and pylons blasted follow one another.

On the sidewalk, a man drags without the slightest embarrassment two chairs he has just recovered from a gutted store.

Others, a little further, carry a tree trunk.

For five days, the city has been deprived of electricity and the intensity of the Russian bombardments is such that it is impossible to restore it.

So, for the thousands of inhabitants who, lurking in underground shelters, depend on it for cooking and boiling water, wood is now a precious commodity.

Seen from the northern districts, where the local authorities have moved into a building protected by soldiers with exhausted mines, the fighting seems very close and the din of artillery...
