The Sonnenstraße has been the problem child of the market community for years.

The road now resembles a mogul slope.

The town hall administration is now aiming for a renovation.

Peißenberg – When Sonnenstrasse was remodeled more than 30 years ago, the project was considered a great success.

The visual design was to be upgraded, especially with the paving between St. Barbara Church and Pestalozzistrasse – which was also successful.

But disillusionment set in relatively quickly: the cobblestones produced traffic noise and the first troughs and hollows quickly formed.

It was later improved again by removing the loud braking ramps towards Schongauer Straße, which were also paved.

But otherwise the condition of the road was more or less left as is.

The reason: In the event of major interventions - such as removing the paving stones - the municipality would have run the risk of having to repay the subsidies approved for the conversion at the time.

Sonnenstraße is very busy in Peißenberg

A commitment period applied to the grants.

Although that has long since expired, the community will have to complete an investment program in the tens of millions over the next few years (e.g. fire station and flood protection).

Other major projects are financially difficult or no longer possible.

At the most recent meeting of the building committee, Stefan Rießenberger (citizens' association; BV) complained that the cars on Sonnenstraße only "wobbled through".

The holes in the road are now up to 20 centimeters deep.

This is not only dangerous for traffic, but also for pedestrians crossing.

"Even if our financial situation doesn't look good, the Sonnenstraße is one of the busiest streets in Peißenberg," emphasized the BV faction spokesman for the need for action: "We have to do something about it as soon as possible.

We can’t leave the road like this for another winter.” Matthias Bichlmayr (Greens) agreed: “Sonnenstraße is now our second pump track in Peißenberg.”

The problem with Sonnenstrasse is the concrete layer

Mayor Frank Zellner (CSU) pointed out in the committee that the understaffed municipal building authority had received reinforcements in the field of "civil engineering".

The new employee (meaning Stefan Maar; editor's note) started work at the beginning of May.

"One of the projects that is already on his desk is the Sonnenstraße," says Zellner: "I'm confident that we'll make progress on this in the near future."

The head of the civil engineering department, Thomas Schamper, is also involved in the matter.

When asked by the local newspaper, he explained that the problem on Sonnenstrasse was the layer of concrete under the road.

"As a result, the water cannot drain properly, which causes settlement." Schamper already has a rough renovation concept in the drawer.

Next Wednesday he wants to present it to the municipal council.

They want to "feel their way" to the best refurbishment solution.

The market council must then make a final decision.
