Journalist Sheerin Abu-Akla, who was killed this morning (Wednesday) while covering the events in Jenin, is the face of the Al-Jazeera network in covering the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Abu Akala was considered the station's most senior journalist, covering the Palestinian field for about two decades.
Abu Akala entered the conflict zones in the West Bank on a regular basis and was highly regarded by her colleagues and staff in al-Jazeera and is recognized in every Palestinian home.
Abu Akala attended major security and political events, brought voices from the field and specialized in her work as a field reporter alongside hundreds of media appearances and live broadcasts.

The senior journalist, Tamer Maschal, recounted the last moments before her death, "Sheerin is a role model for all of us, we lost her. In her last moments she died in her journalistic coverage. The last message she sent us was at six in the morning in an email, where she wrote ' "Nin and Keterim Beit. We did not know that this would be her last message. On social media, they saw that she was hit in the head by gunfire, and this indicates that an Israeli sniper fired at her directly, these are the details from colleagues in the field."
The director of al-Jazeera's offices in Israel, Walid Al-Omri, said that according to the version of the colleagues who accompanied Sheerin and eyewitnesses from the area, IDF snipers opened fire at her upper body deliberately, and did not precede any confrontation.
