"Create understanding for small farms" - Sachsenkamer shows Green politicians his farm with mixed attitudes

State Secretary Ophelia Nick and Member of Parliament Karl Bär recently took a close look at a small Sachsenkam dairy farm with mixed husbandry.

Anton Demmel from Sachsenkam took the opportunity to describe the situation of a small family farm to politicians.

The State Secretary for Food and Agriculture, Ophelia Nick (Greens), visited the farm with Karl Bär (Greens), member of the Bundestag.

Particular attention was paid to animal husbandry.

"I'm a full-time farmer with a small farm," said Demmel.

One of his mainstays is his dairy cattle.

He is currently breeding his own cattle from Fleckvieh to Murnau-Werdenfelser cattle and has an average of twelve cattle on the farm.

He also runs a cheese factory as a direct marketer.

The animals live in mixed husbandry on the Sachsenkamer Hof.

In other words: in winter they are tied up in the stable, from May to November day and night in the pasture.

The planned ban on tethering would hit farmers hard without state aid and support programs.

Karl Bär: People in Berlin have different ideas about small courtyards

"I hope for government funding for conversions and compromise solutions," he said during the farm tour.

"When you talk about a small farm in Berlin, you assume there are farms that are four times larger than this company, for example," explained Bär.

It is important to him to create an understanding of the situation of the small farms in Berlin.

Secretary of State Nick was pleasantly surprised by the visit: "The animals are apparently doing very well here.

For me it was a very valuable visit and I will take the impressions with me.”
