The Ashdod municipality has decided to commemorate the memory of former Knesset member Ilan Gilon, who passed away about two weeks ago.
Gilon lived most of his life in Ashdod and was a member of the city council and deputy mayor.
Mayor Dr. Yehiel Lasri has announced that the municipality intends to rename the youth complex, located in Givat Yona just below the Navy lighthouse, which overlooks the city of Ashdod and illuminates the sea with white lighting.
According to the municipality's announcement, the choice of place "launches into the work of the late Ilan Gilon as deputy mayor of Ashdod and in charge of culture and youth.
"He worked hard and promoted boys and girls, instilling in them social values, human love, and the pursuit of social equality," the municipality said.
"Lighthouse of Humanity."

Mayor Dr. Yehiel Lasri Safed: "Ilan, who grew up to become a social leader in the 3rd District of Ashdod, was a beacon of rare humanity and human love, ignoring political controversies for social justice and redress of injustices.
The youth complex is the natural place to commemorate it and embodies within it its life and work, the warm and loving home that we should all give to the youth from whom the leadership of the future will emerge. "
