Unterallgäu – Throughout the Unterallgäu district, the last few days of May are once again all about health.

Once again, the District Office is organizing the Unterallgäu Health Week from 21 to 29 May under the motto "Time out for everyone".

Organizer Tobias Klöck explains why the motto is more relevant than ever.

Get out of the daily grind, just let your soul dangle and find out how body and mind can be optimally strengthened - this is also possible with the 19th edition of the Unterallgäu Health Week, which this year again offers over 200 events throughout the district.

The steering committee of the health week in the district office made a conscious decision to leave the motto of "(R)auszeit" as it is, explains Tobias Klöck.

“Corona hit the psyche of a lot of people.

That's why there's a lot that's good for the soul at the health week this time," explains Klöck.

Specifically, the expert from the district office names, among other things, yoga, Qi Gong and various meditations - but also a fairy tale hour, where adults in particular should get their money's worth: "Fairy tales can have a calming effect on the mind," says Klöck.

Test new things without spending a lot of time

Is that actually the case?

Klöck sees curiosity about trying out new things and discovering health-promoting offers as one of the greatest opportunities during Health Week.

"Many people from Lower Allgäu also saw during Corona: Hey, now I have time to try new things.

As is well known, time is limited and has meanwhile become a very valuable commodity,” says Klöck.

It is all the more practical that in the next few days you can get a taste of the different health offers without much effort.

The district office has also brought local clubs on board.

For them, the health week is a kind of "shop window", emphasizes Tobias Klöck.

They could present their whole range of offers and also show that the club has more to offer than a football and tennis department, says Klöck.

The more than 200 events include specialist lectures, meditation events, workshops and seminars.

The events are offered across the county.

For example, participants can learn about healthy eating and spices, ride bikes or hike together.

You can enjoy the peace and quiet of an organ concert or learn so-called stress resilience.

So there should be something for everyone - even for people with physical disabilities, the district office emphasizes.

As always, Pastor Sebastian Kneipp, who would have celebrated his 200th birthday last year, plays a special role.

The five pillars of Kneipp's teachings - water, exercise, nutrition, medicinal plants and balance - should be actively experienced in many events during the health week.

The focus of the first Unterallgäu Health Week in 2003 was on the well-known water doctor.

The health week was launched with the help of the Bavarian Ministry of Agriculture and with funds from the European support program Leader plus.

From the outset, the goal was to use the theme week to raise awareness of Kneipp's teachings and to convey them to the general public.

The “Kneippland Unterallgäu” brand had already been founded beforehand, and it still exists today in the form of the “Local Action Group Kneippland Unterallgäu® eV” association.

Incidentally, the health week has now blossomed into a real model of success.

As the organizer reveals, the Oberallgäu district recently knocked on the door in Mindelheim and asked whether and how the health week could also be “exported” to the neighboring district.

"We're open and happy to provide insight," says Klöck.

District administrator Alex Eder is also looking forward to the health week and motivates numerous people to take part: "There is no doubt that everyone can do something for their health and thus give themselves a valuable gift," says the district administrator.

"It doesn't matter whether you want to eat healthier, exercise more or live a less stressful life: you are guaranteed to find something that suits you."

Eder also feels positively that the offers could now take place again in person.

As a reminder: last year, where possible, most of the Health Week offerings were moved to the Internet.

Lectures were held via video.

“A lot of people had to change.

We're benefiting from that now, because it's easier for us now," explains Tobias Klöck - because there are online lectures again this year.

Nevertheless, we are happy to meet again "live".

District Administrator Eder also confirms this: "Personal contacts in particular are part of our social life and are absolutely necessary for our mental well-being."

Let's start in the Kneipp city

The kick-off event will take place on Saturday, May 21, in Bad Wörishofen.

It starts at 9 a.m. with the official opening at the music pavilion.

Then the first program items will follow: a lecture on “stress resilience”, forest bathing, a guided tour of the “Path of the Senses”, a workshop on aromatherapy and in the evening from 7.30 p.m. the annual concert of the Bad Wörishofen town band in the Kursaal.

The details and all other program offers can be found on the Internet at www.ua-gesundheitswoche.de.
