Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas affirmed that the crime of the Israeli occupation in assassinating Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Aqleh in Jenin camp yesterday should not go unpunished, pointing out that he will immediately go to the International Criminal Court to prosecute the perpetrators of this crime.

In today’s speech during Abu Aqleh’s funeral, Abbas said: “Today we bid farewell to Shireen Abu Aqleh, the martyr of Palestine and Jerusalem, the martyr of truth and free speech, and the symbol of the Palestinian woman and the media fighter who sacrificed her life in defense of her cause and people. She was an honest and patriotic voice that conveyed the suffering of the mothers of martyrs and prisoners and the suffering of Jerusalem and the camps sit-ins and incursions into cities and villages.

Abbas pointed out that the crime of the occupation, the assassination of Abu Aqila, is not the first, as dozens of Palestinian journalists fell martyrs, stressing that the occupation authorities will not be able to hide the truth with this crime, and this crime should not go unpunished.

Abbas decided to award the martyr Abu Aqila the Jerusalem Star Medal.

Abu Aqila was martyred yesterday while covering the Israeli aggression on Jenin camp, when the occupation forces targeted her with a bullet in the head, even though she was wearing all equipment and press identification marks, which drew widespread Palestinian, Arab and international condemnations and calls for an international investigation into this crime.
