Wolfratshausen – The climate protection alliance WOR for Future is organizing a bicycle demo in Wolfratshausen on Saturday, May 14th.

After a tour of the city, the children can embellish the B11 in front of Marienplatz, which is then closed to cars, with sidewalk chalk.

The Kidical Mass action alliance takes children and families to the streets in 180 locations across Germany at the weekend.

In Wolfratshausen, the route leads from the meeting point at Marienplatz via Königsdorfer and Schiesstättstraße past the cemetery, via the train station and rafting canal back to the old town.

The alliance demands that all children and young people should be able to cycle and walk safely and independently.

"But the current road traffic law prevents this in every nook and corner - because it prefers the car alone," criticize the WOR for Future spokesman.

Reform road traffic law

“We need road traffic laws that give vulnerable road users the right of way – especially children.

We all benefit from that,” says Simone Kraus from Kidical Mass and calls on the ministry to reform road traffic law immediately.

The desired measures include, among other things, structurally separated, wide cycle paths on main roads and country roads as well as protected intersections.

A speed limit of 30 km/h on main roads in town, as well as school streets and zones without car traffic, such as temporary vehicle bans on driving through schools, are desirable.

A nationwide cycle network is also required as the basis for a safe way to school.
