The Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Internal Security, Yoav Saglowitz, believes that a "national guard" should not be established at all. That the guard would constitute a huge "mass of power" for law enforcement

Disagreements between the Minister of Internal Security and his deputy, regarding the National Guard when it is established.

The establishment of the National Guard was revealed in "Israel Today".

"Israel Today" has learned that Deputy Minister Sagalovich believes that a national guard should not be established at all, but should leave the powers in the police.

As it has been revealed, the National Guard is supposed to be based entirely on Border Police officers who will be joined by a mass of volunteers - some from the Hashomer Hahadash organization.

The Volunteers Brigade is currently being established and the police are simultaneously establishing a Homeland Security Division that will be based on regular Border Police fighters and regular fighters whose occupation will be dealing with serious crime, and serious rioting incidents.

However, with the publication of the plan, a dispute arose at the top of the Ministry of Homeland Security regarding the guard.

In Saglowicz's opinion, the Israel Police and the Border Police should be strengthened and not create a new body with enforcement powers that will bear the term "national" in its name.

In an interview given by Deputy Minister Saglowitz today to Gali Tzahal, he said, among other things: "A law enforcement organization must maintain stateliness and non-bias of any kind.

Volunteering for the Israel Police should be done solely on an individual basis and not on an organizational basis.

"Defining an enforcement organization as a 'national guard' is a fundamental mistake. The term 'national' in the context of enforcement is inappropriate. The State of Israel is not similar to the United States from which the name was copied. Israel".

As stated, Saglowitz's statements contradict the work plan of the Minister of Internal Security and the Commissioner of Police, Major General Yaakov Shabtai, according to which the establishment of the National Guard will constitute a huge "mass of force" for law enforcement.

This morning, Prime Minister Naftali Bennett convened a special discussion on the establishment of the National-Civil Guard.

"The minister is aware of this nuance," a source close to the matter told Israel Today.

"The issue is in its infancy and there may be further changes to it including comprehensive definitions of its functions."
