Landsberg – Energy has not only been an omnipresent topic since the start of the Ukraine war.

The city of Landsberg is also looking for new, non-fossil sources.

In order to promote the expansion of renewable energies, photovoltaic systems are to be built on city roofs.

As an initial review revealed, three properties are particularly well suited: the senior citizens' residence on Johann-Mutter-Strasse, the residential complex on Wiesenring and the homeless shelter on Jahnstrasse.

There are around 7,000 buildings in Landsberg, 80 of which belong to the city.

However, some are ruled out from the outset for PV use, for example for reasons of monument protection, because of unfavorable roof pitch and location or because of the need for conversion and renovation.

However, around 20 buildings are well suited for the installation of PV systems, reported Mathias Rothdach, head of the climate protection and environment department, at the city council's most recent building committee meeting.

The three properties mentioned at the beginning can be tackled directly.

Together they 'only' offer a usable roof area of 2,750 square meters.

But "it would be a first step," said Rothdach.

The electricity generated could be consumed on site or fed into the grid.

The committee unanimously instructed the administration to examine the prerequisites for installing the PV system on the selected buildings and to submit the result together with a proposal for the operator model to the building committee for further resolution.

Lease roofs?

It is conceivable that the city will build, operate and maintain the PV systems itself.

Alternatively, she could also lease the roofs to an operator.

Rothdach warned that it was important to make the decision soon.

Because if the city of Landsberg decides to operate the systems itself, appropriate funds would have to be included in the 2023 budget.

"Otherwise everything will be postponed again for a year."

If Hubert Schlee (CSU) has his way, the city will not spend much time examining operator models, but will take the project into its own hands.

"I wish that we could implement another system this year." Markus Salzinger (UBV) agrees.

"The faster the better."
