Candidates for immortality were not lacking, however, this Thursday, May 12, for the election to the French Academy in the chair of Jean-Loup Dabadie;
armchair number 19, that of Chateaubriand, Boileau, and René Clair, among others.
Franz-Olivier Giesbert and Olivier Barrot were the favourites.
But none have been named.
Giesbert came close to being elected by just two votes, eleven academicians out of the twenty-four present nominated him, the majority being obtained with thirteen votes.

No elected, therefore, while the Academy is sorely lacking in members - in addition to Dabadie, it will be necessary to find a successor to Jean-Denis Bredin, Marc Fumaroli, Valéry Giscard d'Estaing and René de Obaldia.
No chosen one, in the jargon of immortals, this is called a "white election".
There were four ballots.
In detail, Giesbert obtained eleven votes in each round, proof of the solidity of his support;
Olivier Barrot started with six voices, then four, then five and five;
