US House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy today received a subpoena to testify before the committee responsible for investigating last year's attack on the Capitol.
And (AFP) quoted the committee as saying in a statement, “McCarthy was in contact with former US President Donald Trump before, during and after the Capitol attack that took place on January 6, 2021,” adding that “McCarthy claimed that he had a conversation with Trump immediately after the attack, and he admitted During which the latter some form of responsibility for this attack.
The committee also issued subpoenas to four other Republican members of the House of Representatives and has so far heard hundreds of witnesses, including the daughter of former President Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner, both of whom were close advisers to the former president when he was in the White House.
The House committee and the majority of its Democratic members seek to shed light on Trump's actions before and during the attack on the Capitol, when thousands of his supporters stormed the Capitol building trying to prevent the approval of the election of his successor, Joe Biden.
