Russia today confirmed that it will respond firmly to any country's attempt to interfere in the special military operation carried out by Russian forces in Ukraine.

Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said: “We are based primarily on President Vladimir Putin’s statements since February 24 about Russia’s readiness to respond with the utmost decisiveness to any party that tries to infiltrate one way or another into Ukraine and interfere in the special military operation conducted by the armed forces. The Russian is there right now.”

In response to a question about the possibility of a direct military confrontation between Russia and NATO, Peskov stressed that all parties wish to avoid this scenario, noting that statements in this regard were issued by Moscow, NATO and the United States, especially by US President Joe Biden.

Peskov pointed out that the Russian side and Putin personally before the start of the military operation did everything possible to avoid this operation, adding: "They did not want to talk to us and listen to us."

He pointed out that Russia has not observed, since the start of its operation in Ukraine, any attempts by the Ukrainian side to resume dialogue with Moscow.

Deputy Head of the Russian Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, wrote on his Telegram channel today that the continuation of arms exports to Ukraine increases the risk of a possible conflict between NATO and Russia that could turn into a nuclear war, which would be a catastrophic scenario for all.

On whether granting Finland membership in NATO would pose a threat to Russia, Peskov expressed his conviction that this issue would pose a threat to Russia's security and negatively affect the situation in Europe in general.

This comes against the backdrop of the announcement by Finland's President Sauli Niinistö and Prime Minister Sanna Marin in a joint statement that they support the idea of their country joining NATO.
