A first attempt to build tiny houses failed last year due to the veto of the municipal council, now the Diakonie Herzogsägmühle is making a new attempt elsewhere.

There are already positive signals for the project from the Peiting town hall.

Herzogsägmühle – Almost exactly a year ago, the advance from Herzogsägmühle to use a still vacant building plot on the local Roter Berg for the construction of four tiny houses caused a lively discussion in the Peitingen municipal council.

Many councils were quite impressed by the idea, but opinions differed on the location.

In the middle of the residential area, the mini-houses would look like foreign bodies, critics feared.

Market builder Fabian Kreitl warned of setting a precedent if the development plan were to be changed accordingly.

It didn't help that supporters saw in the mini-houses, which are usually between 15 and 20 square meters, an opportunity to create affordable living space for those who can no longer afford a normal house:

After rejection: try again at a different location

Apparently, this did not discourage people in Herzogsägmühle - on the contrary: instead of burying the project after the cancellation, they went in search of a more suitable location.

According to Herzogsägmühle Managing Director Wilfried Knorr, two properties came into focus.

The one, which is south of the so-called "Casa Verde", is now being discussed for another use.

Because the residential containers next to the administration building, which are currently still used for refugee aid, are to disappear in the medium term, an alternative accommodation option could be created on the “Filestück” (Knorr).

So the tiny house efforts are focused on the second lot.

This is to the west of the Alfons Brandl School and would offer enough space for up to seven of the mini houses, as Knorr recently revealed at the annual press conference in the Diakoniedorf.

Due to its peripheral location, it is ideally suited for the project, emphasized co-managing director Hans Rock.

"We would close a gap with it."

From Knorr's point of view, there is also a lot to be said for the area.

There is a suitable access road for the delivery of the tiny houses, and the sewer and supply lines for the neighboring school also run through the property.

"Development would be possible with little effort." The further procedure has already been considered.

The plots for the tiny houses are to be leased to third parties.

The circle of those who can apply is not limited to residents or employees of Herzogsägmühle, emphasizes Knorr.

The mayor now considers the site to be more suitable

In the Peiting town hall, the new initiative is viewed positively after initial talks, as Mayor Peter Ostenrieder says when asked by the local newspaper.

The plot that has now been announced is much better suited than the one on Roter Berg.

A few questions are still unanswered, such as how the project can be reconciled with the status of the diaconal village as a special area for social purposes.

Further talks should therefore follow.

The Peitinger municipal council then has the last word on the matter.

It remains to be seen whether this time it will pave the way for the first tiny houses in the market town.
