The German Navy's sailing training ship "Gorch Fock" has to return to its home port of Kiel faster than planned due to a technical problem.
An oil leak was found in the gearbox, the Navy announced on Thursday.
Initially, however, there were no indications of damage to the gearbox.
The ship was underway under its own power in the morning and should arrive on Thursday.
Expensive renovation
After almost six years of thorough renovation, which was tantamount to a new construction in many areas, the white three-master returned from its first training voyage at the end of March.
The 89 meter long bark had been completely overhauled for years and had repeatedly made negative headlines over the years.
The costs for the renovation rose from the initially planned 10 to 135 million euros.
