Thanks to her courageous commitment, Sarah Jacoby from Stuttgart prevented bad things from happening.

She has now been nominated for the "XY Prize" for her heroism.

Stuttgart - Don't look away, but look - not everyone can do that.

Far too often one hears of cases where no help was provided.

A woman is harassed in a crowded S-Bahn, but nobody intervenes.

The wallet of an elderly gentleman is stolen from the jacket pocket, but no one follows the thief.

Incidents like those that happen every day in Baden-Württemberg.

Stuttgart native nominated for prize - with her commitment she saved an 8-year-old from being kidnapped

Sarah Jacoby from Stuttgart didn't look away.

She followed her instincts and stepped in when no one else was ready to do anything.

And with that, she may have saved the life of a little schoolgirl.

The ZDF program "Aktenzeichen XY unsolved" nominated the Stuttgart native for the "XY Prize", which is awarded to people who "rushed to help their fellow human beings in dangerous situations", as moderator Rudi Cerne says.

Sarah Jacoby renovated her apartment in 2020.

She paused to do some shopping.

On the way to the supermarket, the woman from Stuttgart made a strange observation.

A man was pulling a schoolgirl by the hand.

The child was crying, didn't want to go with the man.

"I saw it more out of the corner of my eye," says Sarah Jacoby in a post by "Aktenzeichen XY unsolved".

Although crying children are not a rare sight, something made the Baden-Württemberg native stumble.

"Somehow it didn't fit.

Probably because the guy didn't really look like a loving father," she recalls.

Sarah Jacoby freed girls from the clutches of a man

Sarah Jacoby observed the situation and made sure the man wasn't armed before confronting him.

When she asked if he was the girl's father, the man responded evasively and invented a flimsy excuse.

He was from the health department and had to take the girl away.

But the 8-year-old protested to Sarah Jacoby that she did not know the man.

The woman stepped in, instinctively pulling the girl to her.

The man fled.

"The child was really happy that someone was there to say 'stop'," says Sarah Jacoby.

"Then, I think, a lot of tears and fear broke out of the child." Bietigheimer is also a hero

Joschka Hackl.

For a year and a half he has been organizing the voluntary search for the missing Scarlett.

A woman from Stuttgart becomes a heroine - the girl's family is still in contact with her

A young woman rushed to Sarah Jacoby's aid and called the police.

Another passer-by immediately started chasing the perpetrator, but lost sight of him a short time later.

The police searched the area.

Since the man had suddenly disappeared, they assumed that he could be in one of the surrounding houses.

By means of the description of the person and questioning by the police, the officers managed to locate the perpetrator - in his apartment very close by.

A little later, the girl's father also arrived at the scene.

"The situation resulted in a nice friendship," says Sarah Jacoby.

She and the girl's family are still in regular contact, meeting up from time to time.

"I think it will stay that way for life."

The perpetrator was tried for attempted kidnapping and possible planned abuse.

There his reduced criminal responsibility was determined.

The court sentenced him to one year and three months, which he is currently serving in a psychiatric ward.

The ZDF “XY Prize” will be presented in autumn 2022.

Even if it is not enough for Sarah Jacoby to win: the knowledge that she was able to save a little girl from worse with her commitment is worth much more.
